Why Did the Deer Cross the Road?

The best part about riding the Metro and not having to drive a vehicle is I’ll never find a deer crossing the tracks or jumping out in front of the oncoming L train. Period. End of blog post.

OK, not end of blog post. I returned home (Lehigh Valley, PA) to dog sit for a few days while my parents were out of town. Fortunately, I had access to a vehicle (one with an expired inspection sticker, a broken blinker and an oil light that kept dinging at me — thanks, mom!) and planned a few get-togethers with friends.

I sold my Ford Focus hatchback the morning I moved to Greenpoint and haven’t driven a car in months. Slight anxiety took over as I sat behind the wheel even though I’ve always considered myself to be a good, confident driver.

After saying farewell to friends and to Easton for the night, I hopped on I-78 and there was Bambi standing on the on-ramp, eyes glaring at me as I drove by. Needless to say, my heart skipped a beat…or a few.

I’ll stick to walking and public transportation.
