I’m (Sort of) Employed

You may remember my last post about the semi-disastrous job interview from last week. Look, I know I was overreacting. Thank you for allowing me to have my moment.

Turns out, it didn’t go so terribly after all. I woke up last Thursday morning to an email from the owner. He simply asked if I was interested in coming into the office for two days to do some freelance work. Uh, duh! Of course. I scrambled out of bed (again) and made my way into Manhattan.

I guess this is the part where I can finally tell you about the company. It’s called ikonic media, a boutique digital agency located in the Starrett-Lehigh building on West 26th Street between 11th and 12th avenues (is it a coincidence I would end up at a building associated with the Lehigh Valley Railroad?). Some of the clients are big-time (read: Project Runway and NFL). After two days of work, I was asked to come back this week. That’s a good sign, right?

I’m not entirely sure if this is a trial period, but I can only hope a full-time offer will be presented in the near future. At this point, I’m not getting my hopes up, but yes, my fingers are crossed. We’ll see! I’m taking it one day at a time.

Basically, I’m handling social media for a few of ikonic’s clients. I’m also compiling a list of influencers for a photo book promotion called 10x8x10 presented by MILK: The World’s Best Tailor Made Books. It’s all quite eye-opening and challenging. I’m learning new terms, how to use new programs and tackling these projects to the best of my ability while hopefully bringing something beneficial to the table.

The most refreshing part is waking up in the morning and having a destination. I’ve nearly forgotten what it was like to be a commuter. This time, instead of trekking up Madison Avenue with hordes of business men and women in corporate attire, I find myself walking down 26th among other hip, young creative types and trendy fashion gurus. The new scenery is a welcomed change of pace. The area could really use a few more lunch spots, though! Anyway, I’m thrilled and will keep you posted on that full-time offer.
